Meeting Nov 8, 2023.

- Paper SPE-217668-MS "The Role Of Semantic Networks In Mitigating Risk During Data Exchange In Multi-disciplinary Well Construction" is almost ready for upload on the SPE portal. Last edits are expected to be performed before the end of the weekend.

- Paper SPE-214962 "Analysis Of The Sources Of Uncertainty In Geopressure Estimation While Drilling": a couple of points have been added in the discussion section. Co-authors shall continue editing the "Discussion" until 1st week of Dec. Afterward the paper will be submitted for peer-reviewing.

- discussion around a possible new investigation topic has been started. The new topic is: "drilling data model with embedded uncertainty description and possibilities for semantic descriptions". It has been found that this is a relevant but ambitious idea. We found that we will sunset the sub-committee as planned, but we will propose the parent SPE Technical Sections if a new sub-committee…

Not sure what a "drilling data model" is in this instance. Does it refer to all data flowing during drilling (surface, subsurface, planning, execution), or data associated with a drilling model?

- We have received the feedback from the conference chair persons for the paper SPE-217668-MS "The Role Of Semantic Networks In Mitigating Risk During Data Exchange In Multi-disciplinary Well Construction": it is accepted as it is, but a few relevant suggestions were provided that we will integrate.

- we are now working on finalizing the paper before the deadline of Nov 16.

- We have formatted the conference paper SPE-214962-MS "Analysis Of The Sources Of Uncertainty In Geopressure Estimation While Drilling" for possible submission to SPE Journal.

- We need to improve the "Discussion" section. It will be merged with the "Way forward" section.

- We aim at submitting the paper for peer-review by Dec 2023.

A first complete draft of the paper SPE-217668-MS “The Role Of Semantic Networks In Mitigating Risk During Data Exchange In Multi-disciplinary Well Construction” has now been submitted to the chairmen of the “Session: 02 - Maximizing the Value of Our Data – Through Breaking Barriers” of the coming SPE/IADC Drilling Conference. We will receive the feedback of the chairmen by Nov 1 at the latest. The deadline for uploading the final manuscript is Nov 16.

Yesterday, the paper SPE-214962-MS “Analysis Of The Sources Of Uncertainty In Geopressure Estimation While Drilling” has been presented at the SPE Annual Technical Conference in San Antonio, TX, USA. It was the next last presentation in the last session of the conference. There was nevertheless, all things considered, a relatively good attendance: about 50 persons. There were 3 questions after the presentation:

  • Q: Can the shown simulations handle cuttings bed?

  • A: the shown simulations were just illustrations of the importance of several factors that influence uncertainty. I don’t want to go in the details of the simulations themselves.

  • Q: How this process differ from a standard one?

  • A: Usually, uncertainty is not handled at all except for wellbore position. Even if it is handled for one discipline, it is never passed to the other disciplines involved in the workflow. We wanted to highlight that there is no shame in ta…
